Atten-tion! Combat boots, military green, and brass galore. And no, I’m not talking about ROTC students on campus. Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of military-meets-grunge inspired looks around Marquette. Doc Marten boots, brassy details, and bronze studs seem like they are no longer limited to Hot Topic shoppers.
Taking a look on campus, and I’ve begun to see a lot less knee-length puffer jackets, and more Army-inspired jackets with zippers and copper details. I’ve also seen several variations of the combat boot: black, brown, heeled, studded, and buckle-clad. Spikes and studs have also found their way into bracelets, necklaces, shoes, and even purses.
The “military” trend definitely catches my eye because it’s edgy; not only is this trend edgy, but it can be altered to also be comfortable and simple.The dark colors and little embellishments can really go a long way and help you stand out without looking too pieced together. You can be girly and grungy at the same time–and adding some touches of a military-inspired look can really help you if you don’t want to conform to the ordinary college girl look.
Feeling brave enough to rock the military look? It’s definitely more functional than it may look. You don’t have to start off going all-out in camouflage print. Try adding dark green items, tops with big front pockets, or a slouchy military-green parka to your arsenal. Olive green can be a versatile color because it can easily be paired with navy blue, black, white, cream, and even a dusty rose pink. For a more polished look, go for a tailored peacoat or blazer in navy blue with shiny brass details.
