Bareilles’ new video brings celebs together

On a scale of 1 to 100, how much do you like Sara Bareilles?

If you’re anything like me, that number is off the charts, which means the recent announcement that Bareilles is the next big artist headlining MUSG’s Spring Concert series was big, beautiful news.

While some of you might not like Bareilles, I suspect many of you simply haven’t gotten to know her or her two LPs, 2007’s “Little Voice” and 2010’s “Kaleidoscope Heart.” If that’s the case, I sincerely recommend you take a chance on them — actually listening might be the push you need to get to the concert April 8.

If you’re not willing to pick up a whole album, sound unheard, try baby steps and take a peek at her new video, for “Kaleidoscope’s” second single, “Uncharted.” Released March 1, it’s a star-studded video that might convince nonbelievers to convert.

Part of the video’s appeal is that Bareilles isn’t the only star who makes an appearance. Vanessa Carlton, Josh Groban, Ben Folds, Ingrid Michaelson, Tegan and Sara, Pharell Williams and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine are only a few of the celebs that pop up in the video, lip-syncing the lyrics alongside Bareilles’ voice.

Each celebrity offers their own personal touches. Tegan and Sara add their own written side notes while Michaelson dances along to the tune. Levine manages to join the video from his own personal room while touring with Bareilles. And Groban adds some sentimental feeling to the song by emoting longing looks and occasionally singing into a banana.

It’s a very original approach to a video — rather than wait for her fans to do the same thing on YouTube within weeks, Bareilles is letting some of her favorite stars get in on the action.

It’s only a taste of what Bareilles can bring to the table. Come April 8, we’ll get to see all she has to offer on stage.
