Shooting homicide at 18th and State

Milwaukee Police Department and Department of Public Safety officers responded to a shooting that occurred on the 900 block of North 17th Street shortly before 7 p.m. Friday, leaving one man dead and another with reportedly non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. University spokeswoman Mary Pat Pfeil said the victims are not affiliated with Marquette.

Students living on the 1700 block of West State Street who were in their homes at the time of the shooting reported hearing six to eight gun shots in short spurts that spanned about 10 seconds.

Witnesses said they saw the alleged suspects fleeing on foot north on 18th Street after the incident. A car at the scene had its front two windows shot out.

Witnesses said police and Public Safety officers were on the scene in less than a minute after they heard the gunshots. Police were investigating the scene and did not report any arrests made in the case.
