Frostbite isn't fashionable, either

Newsflash: We live in Milwaukee, which gets cold in the winter. So why does the university have to include tips in its newsbriefs to help college students stay warm? The answer is that too many are simply dumb and don’t wear adequately warm clothing.

“Student Health Service advises students to protect themselves in extremely cold weather conditions by covering their ears, face and hands, wearing proper footwear and layering clothing,” read the warning. These are the kinds of things that should be common sense. One should think, My ears are cold, so I’ll wear a hat. But for whatever reason, I’ve seen a astounding number of people walking outside with only a Northface vest and boots.

The truth is, while I would like a day off of school, it simply isn’t too cold for students to walk 15 minutes to their classes, as long as they protect themselves. Take Mom’s advice — throw on a scarf so you don’t catch cold.
