Your Guide to Music Festival Fashion

With the announcement of the lineups for music festivals like Summerfest, Lollapalooza, Pitchfork, and Coachella, I’ve been spending time thinking not only about the amazing bands I’ll be able to see, but also tossing ideas around in my head about what I want to wear. I plan on going to Summerfest here in Milwaukee at the end of June and early July, and also Pitchfork (in Chicago) at the end of July. As a fashion fanatic, one thing that’s just as fun as enjoying the music at festivals is choosing my outfit and also noticing and drawing inspiration from what other people are wearing.

Coachella is coming up on April 12-14 and April 19-21, a music and arts festival in California. Aside from music, Coachella is also centered around fashion and art. In fact, there are several fashion blogs ( you’ll see some below) that showcase the different trends and outfits worn by festival-goers.

After looking at some of the styles and trends below, you’ll definitely notice that there is much more to music festival fashion than band tees and skinny jeans. So whether you plan on going to Coachella, Summerfest, Bonnaroo, Pitchfork, Lolla, or even an outdoor concert this summer, here are some tips on how to dress and feel your best. One thing to always remember when deciding what to wear is to look ahead at the weather forecast. You don’t want to freeze or have too many layers on if it’s too warm outside. Make sure that you’re wearing something that isn’t constraining because you want to be wearing an outfit that you can move and dance in! Eye-catching patterns are also a fun way to get noticed. When it comes to accessories, try to keep it simple. I would advise to not wear any piece that would be likely to be loose or fall off during shows. Dressing up for music festivals is your chance to stand out in a crowd, so dress to impress and show off your unique style!
