Tight Uniforms Make Football (More) Enjoyable…Sometimes

In honor of Super Bowl Sunday, I’ve decided to combine two of my loves in this blog: football and fashion. Some of the uniforms out there are pretty great…others, not so much. Ladies, if you didn’t have a reason to watch football before, Nike’s newest NFL uniforms are TIGHT, TIGHT, TIGHT, leaving little to the imagination (if you catch my drift).

To start off the best, we have the Green Bay Packers. Now I know I’m an enormous Packers fan so you’re probably thinking I’m biased, but they are have one of the few truly unique uniforms in the league (I’ll be talking about the similarities later). The color combination is unlike any other and actually works well together, which is surprising, since I wouldn’t normally recommend putting green and yellow with each other.

Overall rating: TOUCHDOWN

Next, we have the Baltimore Ravens, this season’s Super Bowl champions. Deep purple is such a beautiful color, and those black paints are reeeeeeeally nice to look at, not to mention they complement the purple jerseys very well.

Overall rating: TOUCHDOWN

Speaking of tight black pants, the New Orleans Saints are among the best as well. Black on black on black, all black everything, black is the new black, etc etc etc. While they don’t feature any crazy color combos, black and gold are classy and sassy, and really work for this team.

Overall rating: FIELD GOAL

Also, check out this tight end!

Last, we have the Seattle Seahawks. I may still hate them a little bit (see: Fail Mary), but there’s no denying that electric green on their uniforms is fire—no other team has that going for them.

Overall rating: SAFETY

And now, for the worst. The Minnesota Vikings. I almost feel bad ripping on them because they really have nothing going for them besides Adrian Peterson (and he was still 9 yards short of making the record books), but then I remember Brett Favre and Jared Allen, making it okay. (Sorry, I’ll try to limit the football talk for you losing interest). Whoever thought combining purple and yellow must’ve been 4 years old or drunk (or both), because they do NOT belong together.

Overall rating: SACK

Then, we have the Cleveland Browns. The Vikings at least have AP….the Browns actually have NOTHING going for them. With a historically awful record with no chance of improving anytime in the near future, I actually feel bad putting them on this list at all. But just look at the uniform. Brown and orange? Did the creator get inspired by his vomit? This is a unique uniform in the NFL only because ALL of the other teams are smart enough not to use such an awful combination.

OVERALL RATING: Opposing team scores, then your QB trips over his own player and the fumble is returned by opponents, and then a fumble on the punt return recovered and scored by opponents. Otherwise known as whenever the Jets play the Patriots. (http://www.newyorkjets.com/photos-and-videos/videos/Jets-vs-Patriots-Highlights/0a2a76f4-6dbe-4b60-987b-1b792890fb66)

Now the other 26 teams in the NFL can be divided into groups because they all have similar uniform designs/colors that they’re working with (translation: they’re blah..)

The Houston Texans and New England Patriots are both working with red, navy blue, and silver/white.

texans

The Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, and New York Giants all have the typical matte blue and either white or red (or both).

colts

The Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, all have some variation of red and white or gold. Once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.

cardinals

The Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, San Diego Chargers, and Carolina Panthers all feature a more powder blue…yawn.

titans

The Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, and Miami Dolphins all have some sort of teal/turquoise color as their base which, while pretty, is still meh.

jaguars

The Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears are essentially the same uniform but reversed.

broncos

The Oakland Raiders, Saint Louis Rams, New York Jets, and Cincinnati Bengals barely even deserve a mention.

So there you have it. The fashion of the NFL (two words you probably wouldn’t normally put in the same sentence). If you don’t watch for the love of football, at least watch for the men in the reeeeally tight uniforms chasing and tackling each other.
