DPS Reports 2/22/11

Feb. 18

At 3:16 p.m., a person not affiliated with Marquette pushed down a student entering her apartment building in the 800 block of North 17th Street and attempted to remove the student’s property. Another student arrived on the scene and chased the subject to the 800 block of North 18th Street where the subject was found hiding in a stairwell. No injuries were sustained. The Department of Public Safety detained the subject, who was taken into custody by the Milwaukee Police Department and cited for strong-arm robbery.

Between 10:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., an unknown person(s) removed a student’s unsecured, unattended property estimated at $1,035 from a business in the 1600 block of West Wells Street. MPD was contacted.

Between 9:00 p.m. and Sat., Feb. 19, at 1:21 a.m., a person(s) forcibly entered a student’s secured, unattended vehicle in a rear lot in the 2000 block of West Wisconsin Avenue and removed property estimated at $100. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $300. MPD will be contacted.

Feb. 19

Between 5:45 p.m. and Sun., Feb. 20., at 7:00 a.m., an unknown person(s) removed a student’s unsecured, unattended property estimated at $251 from McCormick Hall. MPD will be contacted.

At 11:58 p.m., Schroeder Hall staff reported a suspicious odor coming from three students’ room on the second floor. DPS officers arrived and knocked on the door. After no answer, hall staff keyed into the room where a glass pipe containing a smelly residue was found near a fan facing out the window. A pill bottle containing a green, leafy substance was also found along with 17 16-oz cans of Keystone Light. MPD was contacted.

Feb. 20

At 2:45 p.m., a student walking on the west side of the 600 block of North 18th Street was approached by two unidentified suspects. One of the suspects displayed a weapon and shoved the student to the ground, demanding the student’s property. After the student gave up $5, the subjects searched his pockets and took his personal keys, a debit card, an MU ID and a cell phone. No injuries were sustained, and the total estimated loss is $145. The subject was seen on video surveillance fleeing eastbound toward 17th Street and appeared to enter a dark-colored SUV. MPD was contacted and a Public Safety Alert was issued.
