Men’s Tennis Brief

On Sunday, the Marquette men’s tennis team concluded the Northwestern Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill., by sending doubles teams to the championship match and the consolation match, neither of which were actually played.

The duo of freshman Thibault Troude and sophomore Octavio Perim went 3-0 en route to the finals after its victory over a tandem from Iowa (8-5).

The other tandem of freshman Dan Mamalat and junior Jonathan Schwerin lost its first match 9-7 to a pair from DePaul. Mamalat and Schwerin recovered nicely after their first loss to make it to the consolation match, going 2-0 the rest of the way.

As of press time, it was unclear why the final matches were not played.

In Flight B singles, Schwerin won the consolation bracket after losing 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) to Mitch Brackett of Iowa in the first round. Schwerin went 3-1 on the weekend and benefited from a bye after his loss to Brackett to help him into the consolation final.

Freshman Logon Collins, who won the Cardinal draw at the Ball State Invitational on Sept. 25, went 2-1 on the weekend in Flight A. It was Northwestern’s Andrew McCarthy who beat Collins 6-3, 6-2 in the second round.
