Continuing with trouble on the road, the women’s tennis team fell hard this weekend in Iowa City. In a 6-1 loss against Iowa on Friday, Marquette’s sole point came at the No. 3 position from freshman Kelly Barry. Barry fought through three sets to ultimately earn the point, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
The doubles point was not easily lost, going in tight battles at all three positions.
In a 4-3 loss against Iowa State on Saturday, Marquette started the day with hope, securing the doubles point with 8-4 wins from duos of Christina Ruiz and Rachael Hush as well as Paola Calderon and Olga Fischer at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.
After losing to No. 87 Sonja Molnar on Friday, Calderon bounced back with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Iowa State on the second day of play.
Gillian Hush took the point at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2, improving her singles record this season to 9-8. One of her only three losses came in Iowa on Saturday.
