MUSG meeting announces election primary results, events for next week

This was the final MUSG meeting for senators elected last fall who are not seeking re-election. Next week's meeting will serve as an orientation for the newly elected senators. In last Wednesday's MUSG senate primaries, only the Cobeen Hall senate race required a run-off. Freshmen Meghan Ladwig and Lauren Buikus moved on with 30 and 26 votes, respectively. Angela Zimmerlee was eliminated from contention with 14 votes.

The general elections are scheduled for next Wednesday.

Today was the first meeting for School of Nursing senator Adam Tandez. Tandez replaced Trenell Darby who transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Upcoming events:

MUSG will host "Sex Signals," a comedy improv show about dating and relationships, Monday at 7 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium. The event is a part of Sexual Violence Awareness Week.

On Tuesday, MUSG will host a discussion on the Jena Six trial and the issue of race. The Jena Six is a group of six black high school students from Louisiana who are being charged with attempted second-degree murder after a racially-motivated school fight that ended in a white student being sent to the emergency room. The guest facilitator will be Reggie Jackson of the Black Holocaust Museum. The event is at 6:30 p.m. in the first floor lobby of the Alumni Memorial Union.

A corresponding solidarity event will be held the following Thursday for Mychal Bell, one of the Jena Six students, who is scheduled for sentencing that day. The event will be held at 7 p.m. in Varsity Theatre.
