Two little words you all want to hear

Let me be clear: These two little words are not an appropriate response to the three little words when uttered by a significant other.,”

Contrary to the moral of basically every Sandra Bullock movie in existence, the best way to show someone you care is not necessarily using three little words. In fact, usually two will do – "thank you."

Let me be clear: These two little words are not an appropriate response to the three little words when uttered by a significant other. Any "Friends" fanatic will recall Ross' embarrassment when he laments, "I said, 'I love you.' She said, 'Thank you.' "

But most of the time, a good, sincere "thank you" is all that's really needed to brighten someone's day.

As we seniors prepare to graduate in a little less than a month, it's time for us to thank everyone who has been a part of our lives the past four – or, in some cases, five – years.

The Tribune has a tradition of asking seniors to submit Viewpoints reflecting on their Marquette experience as graduation approaches, and I'd like to personally invite everyone to do so.

It's a great way to say thank you, no thank you or just goodbye to Marquette, all without having to stand in front of a crowd of people judging you like the commencement speaker.

By submitting a Viewpoint, people will still be judging you – but at least they'll do so from the privacy of their own dorm, apartment or classroom.

So in my second-to-last column ever during my second-to-last week at Marquette ever, I want to say some very important "thank yous" to some very important people. Remember, those two little words are more than just a Dido song.

Thank you to Mom and Dad for all your support during the past four years. Thank you for making beans and franks when I came home, for taking the long drive out here so many times, for encouraging me to go to law school and for making me apply to Marquette. I love you.

Thank you to my best friend for making college the most entertaining – if not always productive – four years of my life. Thank you for sharing your clothes, for buying "Lost" on DVD and for being the best karaoke partner a girl could ever dream of. And for knowing all the words to "Summer Girls."

Thank you to my boyfriend for putting up with me. Thank you for keeping Diet Dr Pepper in your apartment, for not making fun of my driving and for watching "Harry Porterfield." I told you you'd like it.

Thank you to that guy who works in the Wells Street parking structure for always opening the gate for me. Thank you for pressing that magical button instead of sitting there, watching and laughing at me as I try to swipe my card like all the other parking structure workers do.

Thank you to my Tribune coworkers for being more dedicated to this newspaper than anyone outside the office knows. You are all witty, smart and hard-working people, and you refuse to trumpet your own accomplishments. So I'm doing it now for you. You guys rock.

Thank you to my statistics and physics professors for giving me A's. I have no idea how it happened, but my GPA really appreciated it.

Thank you to the inventors of Facebook and YouTube for continually destroying my motivation to do schoolwork. Thank you for allowing me to stalk other students, for providing an outlet for people to post ugly pictures of me and for making random people laugh when they claim they are "studying" in the library.

Thank you to my roommates, past and present, for being wonderful and for understanding that I'm quickly approaching my word count and can't talk about you more.
