Primetime lowdown: The hottest fall shows

As a lover of television, let me say how excited I am for the new fall season. There are so many good shows, and if you're not watching them … you're missing out. So, I've come up with a list of my top six shows on TV to watch in between study sessions.

On the FOX network, there's "Prison Break" (Mondays, 7 p.m.). The boys have already broken out of prison and now there's a manhunt.

Five episodes have already aired, but the season is getting more and more interesting as some lead characters haven't made it out alive.

With the addition of William Fichtner as FBI Agent Alexander Mahone, a man obsessed with catching the escapees and deciphering ringleader Michael Scofield's (Wentworth Miller) elaborate tattoo, the chase has become more intriguing.

Also on FOX is "House" (Tuesday, 7 p.m.). The doctor (Hugh Laurie) is back after the cliffhanger finale of season two, which left viewers wondering if he would survive being shot.

In the first few episodes, he's been without his debilitating leg injury, but he's starting to feel the pain again. He's already pulled out the cane and written himself a prescription for Vicodin. Will he regain his swagger? Hopefully, because a sad House isn't a fun House.

The seventh season of "Gilmore Girls" (Tuesdays, 7 p.m.), now on the CW network, is said to be the show's last and is without its original creators, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino.

It will be interesting to see where Lorelai and Rory Gilmore (Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel) end up. Last season, Rory and Logan (Matt Czuchry) were blissfully together and Lorelai ended up in bed with her ex, Chris (David Sutcliffe).

The third season of "Veronica Mars" (Tuesdays, 8 p.m.), premiering Oct. 3, makes the jump from UPN. The show, starring Kristen Bell as the title character, has provided intrigue, laughs and action and could be considered a mixture of "The OC" and Nancy Drew.

It's more than just a great show, it's addictive. Veronica has been through a lot, like solving the murder of her best friend and figuring out who made a bus full of classmates head over a cliff. It's a must watch.

One of the best and most diverse ensemble cast shows at the moment is ABC's "Grey's Anatomy."

Amid the medical jargon, this is the most sexually charged hospital on television. The surgical interns are running wild with the doctors and the patients.

Every character in last season's finale had something change their life, including quitting the program, sleeping with a married man and coping with emotions. The third season premieres tonight.

While "Grey's Anatomy" is sexually charged, FX's "Nip/Tuck" (Tuesdays, 9 p.m.) counters with being sexually explicit. It's safe to say that the plastic surgeons of McNamara/Troy have healthy sex lives.

The Carver — a psychotic surgery fiend — storyline is no more. Already, the show has started to dabble in other controversial subjects: Scientology, disfigured babies and sexual confusion.

These six shows are pure escapism. Take time out to enjoy a little primetime TV.
