According to MUSG rules, club sports can only be allocated funds at certain times in the year, called periods.,”Club sports may have a chance at getting some of the extra $18,000 in Student Activity Fee funds that Marquette Student Government voted on last week, President Ray Redlingshafer said at Thursday's meeting.
According to MUSG rules, club sports can only receive funds twice a year through the Student Organization Allocations process. The last opportunity for club sports to receive funding for this school year was Nov. 14.
At that meeting, the original $18,000 budget proposal included allocating $3,850 for club sports. But the proposal was not approved until the Jan. 15 MUSG meeting. Ten senators were absent at the November meeting when a two-thirds vote of total senators was needed for approval, and the legislation was defeated by one vote.
Redlingshafer, a senior in the College of Business Administration, said he would speak with the MUSG Budget Committee and attempt to re-open the SOA period so club sports could have a second chance at receiving these funds.
