It's like a broken record, a broken Coldplay record. It depresses me at first, but its prevalence numbs the effect. Nonetheless, it's a valid point, which is why the Tribune sports pages will look a lot different this year.

The primary change involves game coverage. No longer will a Friday night soccer match have a typical recap in the following Tuesday print edition. Instead, for all home games (and road games that Tribune writers attend) we will publish coverage on the Tribune Web site (www.marquettetribune.org) as soon as possible after each game's conclusion.

In addition, we will not publish game stories of events we do not attend. Such games and out-dated matches will be covered in our new "Page 2" section, which recaps and previews the news for every sport in season.

For example, the volleyball team played a tournament in Durham, N.C., over the weekend. Instead of publishing an article based solely on box scores and interviews with the coach and players, we covered the tournament (which is old news by now) briefly on "Page 2."

You also may have noticed an eight-page soccer preview section in this issue. To the best of my knowledge, there is no precedent for a separate soccer preview section, so its inclusion merits an explanation.

The women's team comes off an appearance in the last 16 of the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history, and the men's team enters the season with a new coach. We felt the teams provided an interesting contrast on which to base a feature story.

This feature story became the theme of an entire section because we wanted to remind the community that there is more to Marquette athletics than men's basketball. Just ask the hundreds of students who attended the women's soccer matches against Notre Dame last year.

We encourage (and expect) reader feedback. This will be a work in progress. Whether you love or hate our coverage, we really want to hear your opinions. Please feel free to contact our writers via email as their email addresses can now be found under their byline for each story.

Furthermore, if we receive enough feedback about either our coverage or Marquette athletics in general (rants about the mascot or the dearth of fans at volleyball matches are always welcome), we would like to have a "reader letter of the week" feature.

So send us your thoughts. Just don't make me listen to "Yellow" ever again.
