Doing More With Less

Happy Jersday Health Nut! And by Jersday, I am referring to tonight’s new episode of the Jersey Shore. Ok, I know what you’re thinking: Jersey Shore is not cool to watch anymore. At least, not in comparison to season one and two. While I whole-heartedly disagree, I’m not too brainwashed to admit that poofed hair and spray tans are more tacky than trendy.

    But stay with me.

Every Thursday at 9:00 p.m., I relish in an hour-long mental coma. Jersey Shore’s bleeps, blurs and accents numb my brain for 60 minutes of bliss.

It comes down to down time. Do you have any?

The world is always pushing for students to do more. It’s time to push back. Doing more may look good on a resume, but being involved in the community is about quality, not quantity.

Seriously critique your schedule. How are you spending your time? What activities in your schedule are advancing your career, inspiring personal growth, or helping the community? Do you enjoy any of the activities you are involved in?

There is no shame in simplicity. If you are on the brink of a breakdown, consider this your new mind mantra: Live simply. Live substantially.

If Jersey Shore or other guilty pleasures are the only way you can mentally relax from a hectic schedule, so be it. Making time for yourself is just as important as giving back. After all, you can’t pour out to others if you are not full in yourself. You feel me?

Have a happy and safe weekend. Please email [email protected] with any questions, comments or post ideas!
