Marquette University Police sent out an update Feb. 26 saying they arrested a separate suspect in the Feb. 18 robbery and sexual assault of a female Marquette student near the 900 block of 14th Street.
Police said the suspect taken into custody wasn’t one of the individuals detained Feb. 20 on trespassing charges from a vacant house near campus. MUPD said they’re still investigating the incident.
In the email update, Marquette Police Chief Edith Hudson reminded students to lock their residences and report any suspicious behavior to police.
Since the incident, Hudson said the police force has been canvasing the neighborhood, using more mobile cameras in the affected area, and receiving support from the Milwaukee Police Department.
On Feb. 18, a female victim was approached by a man with a firearm around 2 a.m. in an alley near 14th Street and told, “If you say anything, I am going to pull the trigger.”
The suspect was then seen fleeing on foot heading northbound on 14th Street. Campus police released video footage and photos from a security camera on Feb. 19, asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect.
According to a search warrant, police detained a man inside a vacant home on Highland Avenue on Feb. 20 after security footage showed him leaving the property before the assault. Officers found a tan coat and gun underneath the porch and a man who matched the victim’s physical description of the suspect.
The Feb. 26 update from MUPD refers to a suspect separate from the Feb. 20 arrest.
