A 28-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting and robbing a Marquette University student at gunpoint has been taken into custody after the Feb. 18 incident on unrelated charges. The man had two open arrest warrants issued in 2023 in Milwaukee County.
The suspect is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail, according to records from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office. He has been named in a search warrant, though not charged with any crime.
The Marquette Wire is working on independently verifying this information and won’t publish a name unless he is charged.
According to the search warrant, at around 2 a.m. Feb. 18, a female student was walking home from a friends house when she realized she was being followed.
A man confronted her in an alley near 14th Street, pointed a semiautomatic weapon at her and said, “if you say anything, I am going to pull the trigger.”
The armed suspect was then seen fleeing on foot heading northbound on 14th Street after the assault. Marquette police released video footage and photos from a security camera Feb. 19, asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect.
Marquette University Police detained a man inside a vacant home on Highland Avenue Feb. 20 after security footage showed him leaving the property before the assault. Officers found a tan coat and gun underneath the porch and a man who matched the victim’s physical description of the suspect.
The 28-year-old and two other men were detained at the home, according to the warrant.
The university declined to comment on the matter, but sent out a clarification Feb. 23 to students saying no suspect is in custody for the robbery and sexual assault.
