The Marquette women’s basketball team added its sixth recruit of the 2011 recruiting class when Cristina Bigica signed a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday.
Bigica is a 6-foot-1 guard from Romania and will have four years of eligibility when she arrives this fall.
Bigica earned the most valuable player award at the 2010 FIBA U-18 Division B Championships, where she averaged 17.6 points, five rebounds and two steals per game.
On her Romanian club team, Olimpia, this past season she averaged 13.5 points per game during 24.4 minutes per contest.
“Even though she will be coming in as a freshman, the experience (Bigica) has had on the international level gives us maturity on the court, which will be an asset to this team,” coach Terri Mitchell said on gomarquette.com. “She is incredibly versatile, and we will use her at a variety of positions. She is a winner, and we are excited to have her at Marquette.
“When I went to visit her in Romania, I knew she would be a perfect fit for our family.”
