Marquette University Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike Broeker has been named to the NCAA’s Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee.
Broeker will represent the Big East Conference seat on the committee which consists of 20 members. Broeker replaces Dan Leibovitz who became the commissioner of the Atlantic 10 Conference in May. The Big East, along with the four autonomy conferences, hold three votes apiece, while all other voting members hold one vote.
The Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee ensures that appropriate oversight of men’s basketball is maintained, enhances the development and public perception of the sport and makes recommendations related to regular-season and postseason men’s basketball.
The Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee will supervise qualifications and/or selection procedures for the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. The committee will review recommendations from the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee and process other issues related to the administration of the championship.
“Mike Broeker possesses a thorough knowledge of the ever-changing landscape of college basketball and will do an outstanding job representing the Big East and our membership on this influential NCAA basketball governance body,” said Big East commissioner, Val Ackerman.
Broeker is highly respected for his basketball acuity over a nearly three-decade career in athletics administration. Broeker has served in his current role since January 2025 and has spent 23 years at Marquette. During his tenure in Milwaukee, Broeker was instrumental in the recruitment and hiring the last four Marquette head coaches, ensuring continued competitiveness and alignment with the university’s mission.
Broeker has been instrumental in developing a Marquette-specific platform for Name, Image and Likeness, elevating athlete branding and revenue opportunities while leading lease negotiations for men’s basketball to secure playing rights at Fiserv Forum. Prior to joining the Marquette staff in 2003, he spent four seasons as a member of the basketball communications group at the National Basketball Association.
“It’s truly an honor to represent Marquette University and the Big East Conference on the Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee,” Broeker said. “I’m deeply grateful to Commissioner Ackerman for the nomination and to my colleagues across the conference for their support. I’m excited for the opportunity to collaborate with the other committee members as we work together to help shape the future of men’s college basketball.”
