After 14 years of filming, the reality TV show “Keeping up with the Kardashians” has announced that its final season will air in 2021. According to E! news, the family released a statement over social media thanking fans and producers for a great run. The show experienced a meteoric rise to the top of reality television, and catapulted the Kardashian sisters into stardom. Kim Kardashian started as a B-list celebrity whose claim to fame was being the best friend of Paris Hilton. She now boasts 189 million Instagram followers, and has her own underwear line, Skims. While the “plot” of the show mostly revolves around business ventures and the relationships between the sisters, romantic relationships have also played a large role.
Reality shows revolve around drama, whether organic or artificial. The Kardashians are famous for their short, extremely toxic partnerships with men. Who could forget Kim’s 72-day marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries? With that said, it is worth looking into the notable relationships that the Kardashians have had throughout the years of KUWTK. Some have been absolutely insufferable, while others quiet and subdued. Whatever makes for great TV.
Kim and Kanye West
Also known as Kimye, this power couple is by far the most noteworthy of the relationships in the show. Kanye proposed to Kim in 2013, a moment that received two episodes of coverage during season 9. Kanye took Kim to Oracle Park in San Francisco for her 33rd birthday. He hired an orchestra to play one of Kim’s favorite songs, “Young and Beautiful” by Lana Del Ray. He then got down on one knee, and once Kim said yes, the rest of the family emerged from the dugouts and embraced the couple.
The pair has 4 kids together: North, Chicago, Psalm and Saint. This pairing is unlike most relationships on the show because to date, they have never split up, and are still married after 6 years. This heavily outlasts Kim’s aforementioned marriage to Kris Humphries. While they are both extremely prominent outside of the show, Kimye has not shown up onscreen in the series much recently. Kanye spends most of his time at his compound in Montana, while Kim is busy with her business ventures.
Khloe and Tristan Thompson
Once in the shadow of her other sisters, Khloe has really come into her own in the later seasons. She has arguably been the lead for a few seasons. This also means that her relationship with Tristan Thompson has been at the forefront of the drama. Khloe began dating Tristan in the summer of 2016, and the two eventually had a baby together, True. The conflict between the couple started in April 2018, when videos of Tristan’s infidelity circulated online. Unfortunately, this happened the same week that Khloe gave birth to True. Khloe defended Tristan and appeared to take him back while the rumors swirled.
Their relationship took a nose-dive in February when partygoers reported that they had seen Tristan getting cozy with a woman at a party. The rumors turned out to be true, and if that was not enough, the woman was confirmed to be Jordyn Woods, Kylie Jenner’s best friend. The couple have split up but still maintain a relationship in order to raise their child. This is tragic for Khloe, who seemed ready to settle down, only to discover that she was dating a serial cheater. It is for the best that they split.
Kourtney and Scott Disick
Kourtney is the worst Kardashian. She does not have any business ventures of note. She does almost nothing to expand the brand. Despite all this, she still thinks she deserves special treatment from everyone. Her biggest contribution to the show is dating Scott Disick. The pair dated on and off from 2006 to around 2015, having three children together. When they are not romantically involved, Kardashian and Disick work together to raise their kids. He often travels with the family on vacations, and sometimes brings his girlfriend Sofia Richie along too.
The two make for a solid parenting couple, and Disick is truly a blessing to have on screen. Kourtney is boring and moody, and oftentimes acts as a buzzkill during fun family activities. Disick provides a lot of the comedy for the episodes he is in, whether it is his remarks about the family’s gluten obsession or how a lot of the sisters’ fame comes from how they look.
Outside of his relationship with Kourtney, he maintains a strong friendship with most of the other members in the family. He is the only boyfriend/husband who is a true recurring character on the show, as the others are mostly just mentioned in conversation. Scott is the best boyfriend in the show, but is brought down by dating Kourtney, the worst sister.
Kris and Corey GambleĀ
This couple began dating back in 2015, and are still going strong today. Kris, aged 64, is 25 years older than Gamble, who she met at a party in Ibiza thrown by Kanye West. Corey is mostly quiet, and does not open up to the rest of the family like they would want. A notable instance of this was in season 14, when Khloe confronted Gamble about their icy relationship. Gamble was defensive, and talked about how he does not want to fill in as their father. Due to his young age, he is technically peers with the sisters.
Engagement rumors have swirled since 2018, when Kris wore a ring on “The Late Late Show.” Kris soon silenced claims, saying she has no intention to get married again following her past marriages to Robert Kardashian and Caitlyn Jenner. Gamble mostly serves as a background personality, and is very rarely on screen without Kris. Most of the conflict we see in the series is based around Corey’s young energy clashing with the mature personality of Kris. Like Kim and Kanye, they have not split since becoming an official couple.
