Marquette men’s soccer fell on the road to Creighton 2-1, ending its two-game win streak and moving the team to fourth in the BIG EAST.

Junior center back Leo Villa scored Marquette’s lone goal in the 80th minute. The assist from Josh Coan gave Villa a header to tie the game.

Any hopes of a tie or a potential win for the Golden Eagles was within reach for another 34 seconds until Creighton’s Cu Koenig scored the last goal of the game with 10:35 left on the clock.

Creighton out-shot Marquette 17-4 and had a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. However, Marquette senior goalkeeperĀ Luis Barraza was able to save seven of the nine shots put up by Creighton.

With only two games left in the regular season, Marquette is in a likely position to make the BIG EAST Tournament.

The Golden Eagles have 10 points. St. John’s and DePaul are in fifth and sixth place with nine and eight points, respectively. Seton Hall is outside looking in with eight points.

Marquette’s final away game of the regular season will be in Indianapolis against the Butler Bulldogs Sunday. After that, the Golden Eagles play their final game of the regular season at Valley Fields against DePaul three days later.
