Doom-pop band Midwest Death Rattle came into the studio Monday and discussed everything from their new album, cavemen ghosts, why tomatoes make Hi-Fi Café the best coffee shop in Milwaukee, and, of course, dad jokes. The members consist of “weirdos playing music,” according to their bandcamp, who happen to be Nick Perow on guitar and vocals, Derek Mantz on drums, Chad Szopinksi on guitar, Ryan Peters on bass and John Dykstra on keyboards.
Off of their new album Post-Apocalypso, they performed songs “Tacoma Narrows,” a self-motivating anthem, and “,” a song relevant to today’s political climate. Their sophomore album is darker than their first, with its more experimental and complicated sound.
All five members are from Wisconsin, and as a local band often do Milwaukee shows. They play in town next for Halloween on Oct. 29 at Club Garibaldi with Tigernite, and have promised to surprise the crowd with costumes. Listen to the full performance and interview below. Tune into New Music Monday at 6 every Monday night with Gabby, Cecilia and Maggie to hear more interviews with local musicians like Midwest Death Rattle.
