Marquette defenseman B.J. Grill was named one of 20 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, given to a player in each sport who exemplifies excellence both on and off the field. Grill is the first Marquette lacrosse player to be nominated for the award.
The finalists will be cut in half for the official ballot later in the season.
Candidates are judged on four criteria: community, classroom, character and competition.
Grill, a two-year team captain and three-year starter, graduated with a degree in political science last year. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in leadership. He was an All-BIG EAST first team member last season and was selected in the 2016 Major League Lacrosse Draft by the Denver Outlaws.
Marquette women’s soccer defender Jacie Jermier was a candidate in 2015, while men’s soccer goalkeeper Charlie Lyon was in 2014.
Grill is joined by University of Denver’s Jack Bobzein as the candidates from BIG EAST schools.
