The Marquette men’s golf team placed 13th out of 15 teams at the two-day Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club in Georgia. It’s a step backward from their recent performance at the Lake Charles Invitational just a week ago, where the Golden Eagles placed second out of 12 teams.
Marquette finished 10 strokes over par. Sophomore Matt Murlick totaled a final score of one stroke over par (217) and tied for 30th place in the tournament. He made four birdies on his first nine holes of his final round, but finished only two under par.
The Illinois Fighting Illini took home first place at the tournament, finishing 25 strokes under par and earning their second consecutive tournament victory. Illini senior Dylan Meyer won his second individual tournament of the season and finished 11 strokes under par. Meyer finished one stroke ahead of Tennessee’s Lorenzo Scalise for the title.
Marquette will travel to Iowa City in just a couple of weeks for the Hawkeye Invitational, which starts April 14.
