The Marquette women’s volleyball team split two Big East road matches this weekend, bringing its record to 12-8 (2-4 Big East).
The Golden Eagles lost to Connecticut in four sets Friday before turning it around and sweeping St. John’s in three sets Sunday.
“We had a lot of hitting errors and ball control errors,” coach Bond Shymansky said of the match-up against the Huskies. “All the games were tight and when you play on the road you have to muster more courage and more energy to finish.
“We just didn’t quite have it tonight,” he concluded.
Marquette took care of business against St. John’s behind sophomore Ashley Beyer’s 16 kills. Rallying to tie up the first set at 21, the Golden Eagles snuck by the Red Storm to take the set 25-23 before dominating in the second and third sets 25-20, 25-12. Marquette hit .382 as a team, its highest percentage since Aug. 29 against Loyola.
