At 7:03 p.m., staff members at Abbotsford Hall reported smelling the strong scent of marijuana coming from a room on the ninth floor. After staff talked to the student in the room, the scent was stronger and the Department of Public Safety was alerted. The student admitted to smoking when questioned by DPS. Officers confiscated 3 ounces of a green, leafy substance and a marijuana-smoking device. The Milwaukee Police Department took the student into custody, cited him for possession and released him.
Sept. 26
At 12:06 a.m., a DPS officer working the front desk at Campus Town West Apartments reported that a handrail inside the elevator had been torn off the wall. The officer said it was secured on the wall when he started his shift at midnight. DPS will review surveillance video and investigate. The damage is estimated at $200.
At 1:45 a.m., DPS officers approached a suspicious looking vehicle in the 2100 block of West Michigan Avenue. Upon approach, the vehicle fled the scene. Officers were then flagged down to another car by two people who claimed to have been robbed by the occupants of the fleeing vehicle. The victims claimed that a man in the vehicle showed them a firearm and demanded personal belongings. The robbers got away with a purse, valued at $50, and a wallet, valued at $30. DPS officers were able to get a license plate number on the vehicle and MPD is investigating.
At 1:25 p.m., the on-duty resident assistant in McCormick Hall reported a suspicious odor emitting from a student’s room. When the RA knocked, the RA found five students in the room and the scent of marijuana was heavier. DPS was called and officers talked to the student who lived in the room upon their arrival. Upon questioning, the student admitted to smoking. Officers confiscated two marijuana-smoking devices and a container holding a green, leafy substance. MPD issued the student a citation on the scene.
