MUPD responded to a request by the Sheriff’s Department to shut down the southbound I-43 entrance ramp in response to a shooting on the interstate.

MUPD responded to a request by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department to shut down the southbound I-43 entrance ramp toward Chicago, Capt. Jeff Kranz confirmed. A portion of the interstate is being shut down in response to a shooting on the stretch of the interstate near the Walker’s Point neighborhood.

The MCSO said to expect at least two hours of delays as the interstate is closed from the interchange on Marquette’s campus to Mitchell Street.

Traffic is being diverted onto I-94 westbound.

This is the second shooting on I-43 this month. Two subjects were struck Nov. 16 by gunfire in a road rage incident on the northbound freeway near Walnut Street.
