The 66-year-old O’Donnell Hall will close its doors at the end of the spring semester.
The university announced Friday that O’Donnell will not be offered as a housing choice for the 2016-’17 academic year. During the closure, the university will assess the facility and determine how it will fit into the campus-wide master planning process.
“This decision will allow our leadership team time to assess our future related to our campus mater planning process,” said Brian Dorrington, a university spokesman. “Like universities across the country, we are constantly analyzing ways we can be more efficient, while at the same time providing the most positive experience for all of our students.”
O’Donnell was mentioned during University President Michael Lovell’s presidential address Jan. 20. Lovell pointed out O’Donnell as a building that could either be closed or renovated in the future.
Current O’Donnell Hall residents will be not be effected by the closure. The residence hall is home to first-year male students and first opened in 1950.
