Coach Steve Wojciechowski continued to built his freshman class by adding three-star Minnesota recruit Sacar Anim Monday afternoon. Marquette beat out offers from Northwestern, Northern Iowa and Rhode Island for the 6-foot-4 guard.
Anim, a shooting guard from De La Salle High School in Minnesota, joins sophomore Jajuan Johnson, freshman Sandy Cohen III and fellow recruit Haanif Cheatham at the two-spot. However, Anim will most likely see split playing time at shooting guard, with a possibility of playing forward as well.
247sports.com ranks Anim as the No. 180 prospect, but as the third best played in Minnesota. He has an ability to attack the basket and get to the rim. Anim also won’t be a major liability on defense, which Marquette will need from its freshman next season. However, his long-range shooting needs some work, which is why Anim may see some time at forward.
Anim joins Cheatham, Henry Ellenson and Matt Heldt to Wojciechowski’s 2015 recruiting class. The class originally had Nick Noskowiak, who was released from his national letter of intent Feb. 13. With Anim’s addition, Marquette still has three scholarships for next season.
