The Marquette women’s soccer team started its season-ending road trip on the right note, defeating Cincinnati, 1-0, Friday, and then coming out on top against Louisville, 2-0, Sunday.
The Golden Eagles (11-4-2, 5-2-2 Big East) earned their No. 22 ranking last week after beating Connecticut Oct. 9, but it seemed as though any momentum from defeating the Huskies would be lost after a 0-0 draw against Providence two days later. The team proved over the weekend, though, that it was deserving of the ranking.
Against Cincinnati junior forward Ashley Bares, who has been largely absent from the Marquette attack this season, scored the loan goal in the 36th minute.
The elder Bares, senior Brittany, opened things up against Louisville with a goal in the 30th minute, then scored again in the 31st minute.
Marquette will now head to Syracuse to take on the Orange Friday at 6 p.m.
