Less than 24 hours since their three-set sweep over Hawaii, the Marquette women’s volleyball team earned their second clean sweep of the season Sunday night defeating the Fairfield Stags (25-14, 25-23, 25-15).

With the win, Marquette won the Rainbow Wahine Classic.

Marquette dominated from start to finish in the first set, leading as much as 10.

Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Hannah Vanden Berg finished the set with a kill, giving MU a 25-14 set win.

The Golden Eagles hit .682 in the set. Redshirt junior Ellie Koontz had three blocks and graduate student Savannah Rennie add four kills in the frame.

The second set brought some challenges for MU.

Fairfield opened the set on a 3-0 run. Rennie brought the score within one, 7-6, with a kill but the Stags would then go on another run.

Following an ace from Fairfield graduate student middle blocker Luci Albertson, gave the Stags a 12-8 lead forcing Marquette head coach Ryan Theis to call a timeout.

Coming out of the timeout, Marquette went on a 3-0 run to later tie the set at 16 forcing Fairfield to take a timeout of their own.

Marquette then extended their run to 6-0 resulting in a 19-16 lead. Fairfield stayed close the entire time and tied the set at 23 before graduate student Taylor Wolf put the set away with a kill.

Fairfield junior KJ Johnson had six kills in the 25-23 set defeat.

Most of the final set was much of the same Marquette domination from the first set, never relinquishing the lead and claiming a 25-15 sweep.

Rennie finished with a team-high 15 points, recording 10 kills and seven blocks.

Wolf followed up her triple-double from the night before with another big night. The All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection had eight kills, 17 assists and eight digs while also hitting .538 on the match.

The Golden Eagles hit a season-high .443 with 44 kills and eight blocks from the service line.

Next up for Marquette (3-0) will be the Redbird Classic, starting with the University of Illinois-Chicago on Friday at 7 p.m. CST.
