Marquette lost 1-0 to Providence in Rhode Island Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles held the Friars scoreless for 89 minutes, but a goal from Providence’s Gil Santos in the final 30 seconds or regulation ended the hopes for a tie or win for Marquette.
In the first half, Marquette only put up two shots, compared to Providence’s 10.
However, the second half was another story. The Golden Eagles quadrupled the number of shots they took in the second half and had four shots on target.
Marquette also had four different players get a yellow card during the game. Steffen Bohm ended with a red card in the 89th minute while Zak Wegner, Connor Alba and Oliver Posarelli all received yellow cards.
Defensively the Golden Eagles allowed 17 total shots with 11 on target. Senior goalkeeper Luis Barraza put in an impressive performance, recording 10 saves.
Head coach Louis Bennett and the Golden Eagles now sit eighth in the BIG EAST conference with a record of 1-2-1. Three of their next five games will be at home. They face St. Johns at Valley Fields Oct. 13.
