Marquette and UW-Milwaukee will likely begin playing each other again in men’s basketball according to UWM athletic director Amanda Braun. The crosstown schools have not matched up since 2011.
“There has been a lot of discussion,” Braun told the Milwaukee Business Journal. “I think everyone involved is interested in making that happen. They feel like that’s good for basketball in Milwaukee.”
Braun said there was talk between the schools about playing next year, but it didn’t work out due to logistical issues.
The Golden Eagles are undefeated against UWM, beating the Panthers 38 consecutive times. Marquette hasn’t played a public Wisconsin school besides Wisconsin in men’s basketball since December 2013, when the Golden Eagles were upset by Green Bay.
