Shortly after announcing Daniel Meyers as the university’s new provost, the university announced that Nathan Friars would be the new amateurvost.
“We are thrilled not only with the addition of Dr. Meyers, but also the addition of Mr. Nathan Friars,” University President Michael Lovell said in a statement. “Friars is not bad. Like he’s not great, but he’s getting there.”
The responsibilities of the amateurvost include being the understudy of the provost, volunteering for mundane things and following the provost around taking notes, sometimes holding open doors for people.
“I’m thrilled for this opportunity,” Friars said. “Even though I don’t get paid or do much and I’m not good at vosting.”
The amateurvost search committee confirmed it put little thought into its search, affirming it was unprofessional.
