A total of 2,115 votes were counted in the 2011 spring elections, with Joey Ciccone and Trent Carlson garnering 60.6 of the vote to be named Marquette University Student Government’s next president and vice president, respectively.
Runner-up presidential candidate John Heflin congratulated the two, saying it has been a great experience campaigning for the position.
Ciccone and Carlson were inaugurated Sunday afternoon. Both are juniors, Ciccone in the College of Arts & Sciences and Carlson in the College Business Administration. Heflin is also a junior in the College of Arts & Sciences, and his running mate Kirsten de Guzman is a junior in the College of Health Sciences.
Residence Hall Association winners for president and vice president were Ann Shay and Ushma Patel. Shay is a junior in the College of Arts & Sciences, and Patel is a freshman in the College of Health Sciences.
During Thursday night’s MUSG meeting, senators and the executive board praised outgoing President Meghan Ladwig for her contributions to the university this year. She received a standing ovation following her speech thanking everyone for their support. Ladwig is a senior in the College of Arts & Sciences.
