The Marquette women’s volleyball team defeated Notre Dame 3-2 to earn its eighth straight victory Sunday afternoon.
The team was led by junior outside hitter Ashley Beyer, who had 21 kills and 14 digs to notch her eighth double-double of the season.
Senior setter Nikki Klingsporn contributed 61 assists, and freshman libero Julie Jeziorowski recorded 25 digs, a career milestone. Senior middle hitter Rabekka Gonyo added 15 kills and junior outside hitter Ciara Jones added another 14 kills.
After dropping the first set 25-16, the Golden Eagles rebounded from a 10-4 deficit in the second set to win 26-24.
Notre Dame stormed back to take the third set 25-20, forcing Marquette into must-win situations for the final two sets.
The Golden Eagles went on to win the fourth and fifth sets back-to-back to oust the Irish. They capitalized on a strong start in the fourth to win 25-22 and hit .692 in the fifth en route to a deciding 15-8 victory.
The win improved Marquette’s record to 15-7 overall and 6-2 in Big East play.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is a set of three home matches beginning on Friday night against West Virginia.
