The Marquette men’s soccer team rallied to a 2-2 double overtime draw at Pittsburgh Saturday to improve to 4-3-4 overall.
Things weren’t looking good early in Indianola, Pa., for the Golden Eagles’ unbeaten streak. Marquette, who hadn’t lost in five straight contests heading into the match against Pittsburgh, found itself down 2-0 after the first half of play.
After coming up short on a few chances in the first half, the Marquette offense came out determined to fight back. In the middle of the second half, it finally narrowed the gap with a goal from an unexpected source: freshman forward TeeJay East.
East beat the Pittsburgh goalkeeper for his first career collegiate goal to bring the Golden Eagles within one goal of a tie.
Marquette would later tie the game with another strong shot from a young gun. This time it was freshman midfielder Bryan Ciesiulka who found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.
The Golden Eagles were able to hold off four Pittsburgh shots in extra time to hold on for the draw.
The draw extends the Golden Eagles’ unbeaten streak to six games, the longest for the team in 10 years.
Marquette will next take the field on Wednesday at Notre Dame.
