The Marquette Tribune’s editorial advice on health care reform comments, “Be civilized and control your remarks,” seems to have been ignored by your columnist Emil Ovbiagele in the March 30 issue.
Never mind that more than half of Americans were against the legislation and had legitimate concerns regarding the potential economic, constitutional and moral implications of the bill.
And we cannot discount the real possibility that the quality and availability of health care may well be diminished, and that there are serious questions here regarding our individual liberties and the extent of government intrusion into our everyday lives.
At any rate, Mr. Ovbiagele, we DO “know why” we are opposed to the bill, we don’t think our reasons “fall along the lines of crap,” we don’t only “hear what (we) want to hear,” we aren’t “gullible,” we are sorry that you are pissed off, we don’t believe we are hypocrites, we are not racists and homophobes as you imply and we are not “sheparded” by a “madman!”
Although we are not rich, we are the ones who pay the taxes, play by the rules, handle college tuition bills and expect nothing for free. And we are a lot smarter than you think.
