The ball kept on rolling Saturday afternoon for the Marquette men’s tennis team as they swept Bradley 7-0 to keep it perfect for the season at 7-0.
The Golden Eagles won all of the singles and doubles matches not dropping a set in any singles match.
“I felt that we were pretty sharp today,” coach Steve Rodecap said. “I felt that we were much sharper in doubles and I was really happy with our energy.”
Marquette opened with three, quick 8-2 victories in doubles. Senior Dusan Medan and freshman Jacob Straus won at first doubles, senior Mark Rutherford and sophomore Jonathan Schwerin won at second doubles, and senior Niko Boulieris and freshman Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley made it a perfect three for three at third doubles.
“I didn’t feel like our energy yesterday in doubles was where it needed to be,” Rodecap said. “I felt like today we did a much better job.”
Singles play continued the momentum as all six Marquette players won in two sets. Bradley only mustered more than two points in a set in one of the six matches. It was a complete team dismantling.
“In singles we came out in first sets and played really well,” Rodecap said. “I think it really set the tone for the day.”
Boulieris held his opponent Brock Reiman at love both sets to win at fourth singles. The singles victory was the 80th of his career, adding on to the record he set the night before with his 79th singles victory. He is currently in first place all time in Marquette history in singles victories and second in total career victories with 144.
“I think we played really well today,” Boulieris said. “Our energy level was a lot higher than yesterday and that’s what we wanted to accomplish.”
“The younger guys came through really solid today. We are really starting to come together now, and we can see that and I’m really happy for it.”
