The Department of Public Safety reported two armed robberies close to campus early Thursday morning. Both victims were Marquette students.
In the first robbery, a student was approached at 1:34 a.m. in Parking Lot #3, located at the rear of 1539 W. Kilbourn Ave. The student surrendered his wallet to the suspect and was unharmed. The suspect fled the scene, heading north.
The same suspect approached another student at 1:36 a.m. in an alley at 934 N. 16th St. The student did not surrender any property.
The suspect fled the scene in a black Chrysler Concord, which was last seen headed north. The license plate number is unknown. Two other individuals were in the vehicle when the suspect fled, according to DPS.
The suspect is described as a 25-year-old black male last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black cap and baggy white pants.
DPS said both students targeted in the robberies were not physically injured.
Marquette’s surveillance network captured a portion of the incidents. Associate Director of DPS Capt. Russell Shaw said all video footage of the robberies has been forwarded to the Milwaukee Police Department.
DPS is reminding students to take basic precautions to deter such incidents. Students should walk in pairs at night and use LIMOs or the walking escort service. Students should also report any suspicious activity to DPS by using a blue light phone or calling DPS.
MPD officers are investigating the incidents.
