The Marquette women’s volleyball team went 1-2 in the Michigan/adidas Invitational in Ann Arbor last weekend, falling to No. 6 Michigan and Oregon State before defeating Dayton.
Sophomore Ashley Beyer led the team with 39 kills over the three matches and was named to the All-Tournament team.
Marquette opened up play on Friday losing in straight sets (16-25, 19-25, 15-25) to Michigan. The Golden Eagles allowed 11 service aces to the Wolverines, which also held Marquette to a meager .027 hitting percentage.
This match was followed by another 3-0 defeat (22-25, 23-25, 19-25) — this time to eventual tournament champion Oregon State. Marquette was led by Beyer and freshman Kelsey Werner, who tallied 20 digs.
Saturday proved to be a better day for the Golden Eagles, who rebounded and took out Dayton in five sets (25-16, 17-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-10).
The Golden Eagles head into conference play with a record of 10-4. Marquette will take on Pittsburgh in its Big East opener this Saturday at Pittsburgh.
