A couple of weeks ago, Zero the Polar Bear was happily playing with a bucket in his habitat at the Milwaukee County Zoo. The bucket got stuck on his face and not being able to see where he was going, Zero tumbled over the side of his habitat into an empty moat. Now he’s hanging out in the moat, making no moves to try and get out.
Apparently he’s done this before and some say a repeat performance makes Zero a pretty dumb bear. But I think he’s just breaking the mold. I mean, why live in your man-made habitat when you can roam around in an empty concrete moat? Zero is forging his own path and getting a lot of attention for it, too. (Check out this report from a California television station.)
Zero doesn’t appear to have any desire to leave the moat, and he’s throwing his zookeepers for a loop. Maverick move, indeed.
