The walkway next to Schroeder Hall usually smells of boiled pasta, marinara sauce and greasy carbs. But for a brief time every Tuesday and Friday, that scent is replaced with the scent of cantaloupe rinds, coffee grounds and pineapple skins — the smell of compost.

About 50 students gathered at the Alumni Memorial Union Monday afternoon to attend an hour-long student forum held by the Higher Learning Commission. Two members of the commission, Claire Etaugh from Bradley University and Richard A. Redner from the University of Tulsa, asked the students about their experiences at Marquette as part of the reaffirmation of Marquette's accreditation.

LIMO services maintained as example for other universities

LIMO services, dating back to fall 1986, include three parts. The blue vans are a door-to-door service that can be requested at any location within the LIMOs boundaries. The white express vans follow two circuits on Wisconsin Avenue, one on Kilbourn Avenue and the other on Wells Street, which takes about 12 minutes to complete. The third part is the Student Safety Patrol, made up of student workers who walk people to their destinations.

Push for ethnic, geographic diversity shown in freshman demographics

A majority of Marquette applicants come from the Great Lakes region, specifically from Wisconsin and Illinois. This is reflected in the preliminary data regarding the freshman class’ state of origin. About 40 percent of the class of 2017 applied in Illinois and another 33 percent applied in Wisconsin.
