My roommates and I loved Have a Nice Day Café. We realize that it was kind of gross — in a dirty, hadn’t been cleaned since the mid-’90s way — but we loved it there. Have a Nice Day Café had the best ladies’ night: free cover and five free drinks. Plus, it was never crowded, so we had free reign of the multi-colored, light-up dance floor.
When we heard that Have a Nice Day Café was closing, it was heart-wrenching. We have so many great memories there! When my roommate, Tiffany, read an article about a new club moving into the space, she immediately sent me an e-mail with the news. It was an answer to our prayers! Maybe this new club would give us many more fabulous going-out memories, minus the need for hardcore Purell usage.
Suite, 1103 Old World Third St., opened in early December. It is a sleek, contemporary nightclub and a change of pace from our usual haunts. The cover is $5 before 11 p.m., and $7 after. Drinks are kind of pricey — well, pricey for my standards. Mixed drinks are about $7.
The majority of Suite is comprised of a dance floor with two different bars. Private VIP suites are located around the perimeter. It’s a trendy atmosphere, but it wasn’t quite as fun as I was expecting. We didn’t meet any interesting people, and it seemed like most weren’t there for socializing beyond their groups. The bartenders were efficient and competent but not the friendliest, and the DJ wasn’t spinning anything I hadn’t heard before.
All in all, Suite wasn’t the awesome new club I was looking forward to. It was an OK time, but I’ve had better nights. Maybe I’d enjoy renting a suite with a group of friends and feeling like a VIP for a night, but as for hitting it up just for the dancing or the drinks? Give me Decibel over Suite any day.
