As the air is becoming crisper and temperatures continue to drop, winter apparel is slowing make its way into our sight. In terms of transitioning, I find this time of the year one of the most difficult. Transitioning into the freezing temperatures and also the apparel that it brings about. It can be difficult staying warm and cozy while still pulling off that look you want. But it can be equally as difficult trying to shift your wardrobe into a freezing-temperature-friendly one while not spending too much on buying cold weather essentials. In comes the obligatory wardrobe check.
Take a look at your closet and decide how you want to update your wardrobe for the approaching cold season. Get to know everything you actually have. Examine your basics and neutrals. Make sure you have a solid foundation of neutrals such as nude, black, or brown boots, sweaters, winter jackets, pants, and leggings. Once you have a solid grasp on what you do and do not have, decide from there which neutrals you’ll still need this season and think about which key pieces you want to add that will best accentuate these neutrals. Keep in mind that your most expensive Fall/Winter key pieces should be the pieces that you’re going to wear daily. Spend more time on finding the best quality of these items, because you’ll get the most wear out of them. When shopping for new items, consider the ways you’ll be able to mix and match the item before purchasing it. If you’re unsure of what you’d wear it with, skip it. Aim for new pieces that integrate well with the pieces you already own in order to stretch your wardrobe and your wallet.
Planning ahead and analyzing the things you already own will save you a wondrous amount of money and hassle. If you do a little organizing and planning you’ll save money in the end and won’t have to feel guilty bout splurging on a few spendier, bold statement pieces. And if there’s a trend your dying for but it just doesn’t fit into your budget, use something similar that you already own to recreate the look. Make the most out of your wardrobe and take the time to reevaluate your closet; you’ll thank yourself in the long run.
