The Blue House looks like a little girl’s dream on the outside, painted light blue with white accents. The inside, however, includes a den lined with wood paneling, taking the girls back to the ‘70s, and a dishwasher the size of a small cupboard. During the summer, a rabbit died in their backyard and it took about two weeks before Margaret’s boyfriend finally got the guts to get rid of it. Although no real animals live in the house, some of their pretend pets include a blow up penguin and a plastic flamingo that lives in a decorative palm tree. Christine proudly says, “People think our house smells like Murphy’s.”
Joe “The Bruiser” McWeeney, Colin “Check Your Sack” Quinn, John “Get ‘Er’ Done” Musech, Corey “The Sandman” Schadt, Mike “Danger Zone” Zientara, Brian “Pee-Pants” Letke, Cody “Is That My Real Hair” Moore, Dennis “Surf Bro” Harrington and Will “Cracker Barrel” Jurgensen.
Sideboob was built in 1948, originally as a cold war bunker. Thirty percent of the foundation is made out of gingerbread and several scenes from “The Green Mile” were shot in the basement. The name Sideboob comes from a legend when a golden hawk descended among the occupants during a storm. The hawk offered to help direct them in return for one favor: to remove an arrow that was in his left breast. Dennis bravely stepped forward and removed the arrow. As a result, the guys climbed on the back of the hawk, and he returned them home safely.
(OK. None of that was true. Just a tale from the current residents.) But Sideboob is home to a Captain Morgan statue, a dishwasher, fruit flies and a set of drums. It also includes a built in bar, a cleaning and creative crew, several boxes of mac and cheese and nights filled with pillow talk.
Kevin Kramer, Joe Kelly, Casey Gray, Jimbo Ford, Sean Morrissey, Cullen Reynolds and Kevin Fleming
The Deck House has one of the most-prized decks on campus since it’s right on top of their garage (hence the name). Junior guys have become experts at outside dining that includes grilling out, playing some grunge music and hiding from the beehive on their deck. Their theme song is Nicki Minaj’s “Beez in the Trap,” which they turned into, “Beez in the Deck.” All are Chicago natives–north side guys live upstairs and south side guys live downstairs. Like most houses on campus, they have a pet mouse they see every now and then.
Mary Kastengren, Sarah Miller, Alexis Zillo, Stacy Scheffer, Kaitlin Conti, Alicia Santaga, Ashley Stoltz and Mo Trattner
Eight junior girls are lucky enough to live in Marquette’s version of Barbie’s Dreamhouse. While being in a great location, the house is also cute, colorful and totally girl-friendly. Every room has different print carpet including cheetah and zebra that their 60-year-old male landlord picked out. Their kitchen also includes a ladder because all the cabinets are too high. Back in the ‘80s, the house was white and known around campus as “The Whitehouse.” It’s famous because it housed Chris Farley’s ex-girlfriend, and rumor has it he tried to burn it down after she cheated on him.
