The residence halls are silent, the sidewalks are vacant and the library is virtually empty. This means only one thing: Fall Break has arrived.
It’s Wednesday afternoon, you’ve taken your last midterm, the majority of your friends have left for home and you’re wondering what you’re going to do these next four-and-a-half days because you’re stuck on campus.
Here are a few good things to do and know while sticking around Milwaukee for break.
If the library is a place you decide to spend most of your time over break to catch up on homework or look ahead in your classes, the times have changed slightly. Check out their Fall Break schedule.
But if the library is the last place you want to go, there is plenty available to do while the student body is non-existent.
You can head over to the Al and watch as the undefeated in the Big East Conference Marquette Women’s Volleyball team take on Seton Hall on Friday at 7 p.m. and Rutgers on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. You can also check out the No. 7/13 Marquette Women’s Soccer team takes on USF Saturday at 7 p.m. at Valley Fields. This is a big game because it’s “Senior Night” and the Golden Eagles are fighting to earn their third Big East American Division Championship title. If you’re sticking around the area, this is definitely a must see game.
If you’re not into sports, though, there are still plenty other things you can do too. Although the weather forecast doesn’t look good, grab a friend and take a walk to the lake or around campus if there are glimpses of sunshine. Maybe head down to the Third Ward and wander around the Public Market or do a little boutique shopping. Milwaukee offers many options for dining as well so trying a new restaurant out is a fun thing to do.
But even though it may seem like everyone has left campus, don’t worry; you’re not alone. This could be a chance for you to meet the girl down the hall who couldn’t make the trip home to California or grab lunch with the guy in your English class who stayed on campus too.
Either way, staying on campus may not be such a bad thing. Expand your interests, and try something new. And if you can’t find anything you’d like to do over break, there’s always one thing college students love to do after a tough week of midterms: catch up on sleep.
