Marquette women’s basketball can now play 5-on-5 this summer.
The Golden Eagles acquired their 10th and 11th players on Thursday, Mackenzie Givens and Ainoah Rio.
Givens transfered to Marquette from Big East opponent Xavier with two years of eligibility. Last season, the 6-foot-0 wing was second on the team in points per game (11.7), also averaging 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals. When the Musketeers traveled to the Golden Eagles on Feb. 26, Givens scored 20 points on 6-of-15 shooting, and grabbed six boards.
Rio is far less familiar to Marquette.
The Nantes, France native comes to the Golden Eagles after playing in the second division French league for the past four seasons. Starting on Pole France, Rio moved to La Tronche Meylan for the past two years. In the 2025-26 season, she averaged 4.8 points and 4.0 rebounds, also shooting 37% from behind the 3-point line.
Her commitment graphic labels her a center, and her FIBA profile lists her at 6-foot-2. Rio further bolsters Marquette’s front court, which was in desperate need of reinforcements after every post player — including last year’s leading scorer Skylar Forbes — left.
It’s unclear how much eligibility the 20-year-old Rio has remaining.
