Nolan Minessale is coming back to Marquette — only this time, in college.
After spending two seasons at St. Thomas, the former Marquette University High School guard is becoming a Golden Eagle, Ben Steele of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Monday. Marquette athletics announced the signing in a release on Tuesday.
Minessale is a desperately needed pure shooter, averaging 19.8 points per game — the No. 34 highest scorer in the country — on an elite 50.6% shooting clip. Last year, the Golden Eagles shot 43.8% from the floor and were only 118th in offensive efficiency on KenPom.com — the team’s worst mark in Shaka Smart’s five years at the helm.
The 6-foot-5 guard is the 14th best shooting guard in the transfer portal on 247Sports, joining sophomore floor general Nigel James Jr. and his partner in crime Adrien Stevens in Marquette’s back court.
Minessale will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Minessale is Smart’s second portal acquisition this offseason, alongside big man Sananda Fru, meaning the Golden Eagles have one more open scholarship spot to fill.
