Freshman point guard Jamal Ferguson didn’t play much in 2012-13. Whether that alienated him from the program remains to be seen, but Ferguson has to decided to transfer schools next year.

“I am hoping to find a school closer to my family, who are very important to me,” Ferguson said in an official release from Marquette Athletics.  “I would also like to obviously find a situation where I can have more playing time on the court.”

Ferguson played in 14 games this past season, averaging 4.6 minutes per appearance. He scored 1.1 points per game and grabbed 0.6 rebounds per contest.

“Jamal has decided it is in the best interest of his future that he leave the team,” head coach Buzz Williams said in the release.  “He has our complete support, and we wish him nothing but the best and are very appreciative of his contributions while he was here.”

Ferguson is the second Marquette guard to be granted his release in the past week. Redshirt junior guard Jake Thomas’  intention to transfer became public last Wednesday.
